14 Day Business Visa

If you hold a UK passport, the Dubai visa question has a surprising answer: you may not need to apply at all. Holders of a full British citizen passport can normally collect a free visitor visa on arrival. Travellers with other passports, or other types of British nationality, may need approval before they fly. This guide shows which group you belong to and how to apply for a Dubai visa online when you need or prefer a pre-arranged visa.
This page covers three groups: travellers with a British passport, people who live in the UK on another passport, and anyone in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow or elsewhere comparing options before booking. Living in the UK is not the same as being a British citizen. UAE entry rules follow your passport, not your postcode.
Dubai E Visa Online is a private visa service. We are not a government body, and approval always rests with UAE immigration.
Usually not, if you hold a full British citizen passport. UK Foreign Office advice says a visitor or tourist visa is issued free of charge when you arrive in the UAE. You do not apply beforehand. The visa is valid for up to 90 days within a 180-day period that starts on your first entry. You can use those days in one stay or across several visits.
Some older articles still mention a 30-day stamp. Stay rules have changed over time, so check the date on your passport stamp before you leave the immigration desk.
So why would a British traveller apply online first? These are the usual reasons:
For the first two groups, applying early is a choice. For some people in the last two, it is a necessity. We explain each case below.
The UAE authorities set the entry rules. The UK Foreign Office summarises them for travellers on a full British citizen passport:
Rules can shift, so also read our new Dubai tourist visa rules guide. The Foreign Office's UAE advice also includes a regional-tensions section that covers possible flight disruption. Read the latest version and think about insurance before you book.
The Foreign Office advice applies to a full British citizen passport. That is why the first question is always which passport you hold. Most British passport holders Dubai visa questions come down to this one detail.
If you are unsure, ask the embassy first. Do not buy flights and hope it works out.
Residence and citizenship are different. Someone living in Leeds on a non-British passport is not a British citizen, and the UAE looks at nationality. The UAE Embassy in London has stated that UK residents holding passports from countries outside the visa-free lists must obtain a visa before travelling. Living in the UK does not remove that step.
Many expats in the UK moved for work or study and still travel on a passport from home. For them, Dubai planning starts with that passport. Check whether your nationality can enter without a prior visa. If not, apply in advance with your own passport. Your UK immigration document does not replace it. Passport expiry matters too, so renew early if you are close to the six-month mark.
UK households are often mixed. A British-citizen parent may travel with a partner or child who holds another nationality. Each person is assessed on their own passport. One traveller may use the arrival visa while another needs a pre-arranged visa. Prepare each passport separately and confirm every approval before you finalise bookings.
The rules are the same in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Where you depart from does not change the visa rule. The passport does. Check the expiry date on every family passport, including children's, before booking. A passport that expires too soon after arrival may not meet UAE entry rules.
A Dubai visit visa for British citizens and a tourist visa are, in everyday use, the same idea: a short-stay permit for holidays or family visits. On our application page, you choose by length of stay and entry type. Business and other categories are listed too, and availability can change. Our Dubai visa types guide covers the categories in more detail.
| Option | Stay | Entry | Often chosen for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48-hour transit | 48 hours | Single | Long layovers |
| 96-hour transit | 96 hours | Single | Stopovers with sightseeing |
| 30-day visa | 30 days | Single or multiple | City breaks, family visits |
| 60-day visa | 60 days | Single or multiple | Longer holidays |
Validity windows and extension details differ by visa and appear on the application page.
A full British citizen passport already covers many short trips through the arrival visa. A paid pre-arranged visa makes sense when you want certainty, a particular entry type, or when the arrival route is not open to you.
This option suits trips from a long weekend to a month. A single-entry visa covers one trip. A multiple-entry visa lets you leave and re-enter within its validity, which helps if your plans include a side trip out of the UAE. Each visa has an entry window and a stay length. Both are shown on the application page before you pay.
This option suits longer family visits or extended stays. If you hold a full British citizen passport, the arrival visa may already give you longer than 60 days. So this visa mainly suits travellers who cannot use the arrival route. Choose single or multiple entry the same way as for the shorter visa.
Document lists can change, so rely on the list shown when you apply. At the time of writing, our application page asks for:
Most delays come from poor scans, not missing paperwork. Photograph or scan your bio page flat, in good light, with all four corners visible. Make sure no finger, paper or glare covers any detail. Enter your name exactly as printed, including middle names. Do not upload a damaged passport or one with handwritten changes. If your passport is close to expiring, renew it before you apply.
If you live in the UK on a non-British passport, the passport and photo rules are the same. The passport of your nationality is the document that counts. Your UK immigration status document is not a substitute. Make sure your UK status is in order before you leave, because you will need to return. If you recently became a British citizen, apply with your new passport only.
Applying is done online, using scans of your documents. A Dubai visa application for British citizens and one for UK residents follow the same steps. Only the passport and the eligibility check differ.
Many applicants ask whether they can get a Dubai visa online from UK without posting anything. In our process, you upload scans and nothing is sent by post. Here is the usual Dubai visa application online UK applicants follow:
Remember the time difference. The UAE is three or four hours ahead of the UK, depending on the clock change. A message you send in the evening may not be seen until the next UAE working day. Carry a printed or digital copy of your visa with your passport when you travel.
Start with what is free. For a full British citizen passport, the arrival visa costs nothing, according to UK Foreign Office advice. Any fee you pay us is for a pre-arranged visa, so you are paying for certainty, options and handling.
Our price covers the UAE government charge and our service fee together. We do not list fixed figures on this page, because amounts depend on visa type, nationality, processing speed and the number of travellers. The price is shown on the application page before you pay. Government charges in the UAE are set in AED, so your card statement may show a currency conversion.
People comparing Dubai visa cost from UK providers should check what each quote includes. Look for government fees, service charges and any express add-ons. A fair Dubai visa price for British citizens also looks different from one for other passports, because the arrival route is free for the first group. Our Dubai visa fees guide explains the main cost factors.
Processing depends on the visa type and the quality of your application. Our application page lists estimates by visa type. At the time of writing, they ranged from about one to two days for the 48-hour transit visa to three to four days for 30 and 60-day tourist visas. The 96-hour transit visa was listed at four to five days. Treat these as estimates, not promises. UAE immigration decides each case, and delays can happen.
Working days matter. The UAE weekend falls on Saturday and Sunday, so a Friday submission may wait until Monday. Planning ahead matters most around half-term, Christmas and Easter. If you want a Dubai tourist visa from UK, apply before you commit to non-refundable hotels, and consider refundable bookings until you have approval.
If your trip is close, look at our express Dubai visa options. Express processing aims to shorten the wait for eligible applications. It does not guarantee approval or an exact timeline. It may suit a Mancunian with a last-minute break or a Londoner with a short business trip. It is not available for every visa type, and it usually costs more, so confirm both before you pay. Express does not fix weak applications. Unclear scans delay a fast application as much as a standard one.
After you submit, you can check your Dubai visa status online using the details from your application. For a walkthrough, read how to check Dubai visa status online.
If it takes longer than the estimate:
Once the visa arrives, check that the name, dates and passport number match your passport exactly. Fix any mismatch before you travel.
No service can prevent every refusal. These are common, practical causes:
If a problem comes up, fix what you can and read about common reasons for Dubai visa rejection. Talk to support before reapplying, because the right next step depends on the cause.
