14 Day Business Visa
E-visa • Single Entry
Do Puerto Rico travelers need a visa for Dubai? It depends on the passport you carry, and for most people from Puerto Rico that passport is a US one. People born in Puerto Rico are US citizens, and Puerto Rico does not issue its own passport. UAE government guidance lists US passport holders among the nationalities that can get a visa on arrival, so a pre-arranged visa is often a choice rather than a requirement. If you still want approval in hand before you fly, you can apply for a Dubai visa online through Dubai E Visa Online.
Start with the passport, not the address. Puerto Rico is a US territory, and Puerto Rican citizens travel on US passports issued by the US Department of State. UAE entry rules are set by nationality, so the rules that apply to you are the ones for US passport holders.
The UAE government portal lists US nationals among the groups that can obtain a visa on arrival without arranging a visa in advance. The portal sorts these groups into a 30-day list and a 90-day list. Older guides quote 30 days for US passport holders. More recent updates report up to 90 days. The portal also says the lists change from time to time, so confirm the current stay length on the UAE government portal or with ICP before you book.
One rule is stated clearly on the UAE government portal: passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Check your expiry date before you buy tickets.
A Dubai visa for Puerto Rican passport holders is therefore not a legal necessity for most tourist trips. It becomes useful in specific situations, which we cover in a later section.
The practical Dubai visa requirements for Puerto Rican citizens fall into two separate groups:
Do not mix the two. A document on the service list is not automatically a government rule, and the reverse is also true.
Many travelers type "Puerto Rican passport" into a search box because the island has its own identity, flag and culture. For immigration purposes, though, the document in your hand is a US passport. That is why the rules look the same as those for travelers from Texas or Florida.
Travelers who search for Puerto Rican passport holders Dubai visa guidance are usually asking one of three things:
The first question is answered above. The second depends on the current visa-on-arrival rule for US passport holders, which you should confirm before travel. The third is covered in the visa types section below.
Living in Puerto Rico and holding a US passport are two different facts. Most residents are US citizens, but not all of them are. Some residents hold a foreign passport, and some Puerto Rican citizens live elsewhere in the United States or abroad.
The UAE looks at your passport. It does not look at your street address. The Dubai visa requirements for Puerto Rico residents therefore depend on the nationality printed in the passport you will travel with.
| Your situation | Passport you travel with | What decides your Dubai entry route |
|---|---|---|
| Born in Puerto Rico, living there | US passport | UAE rules for US passport holders |
| Puerto Rican citizen living in another US state | US passport | UAE rules for US passport holders |
| Puerto Rican citizen living in another country | US passport | UAE rules for US passport holders |
| Foreign national living in Puerto Rico | Foreign passport | UAE rules for that nationality |
| Green card holder with a foreign passport | Foreign passport | UAE rules for that nationality, plus any special conditions |
Residents who are not US citizens should never plan on the assumption that US visa-on-arrival rules apply to them. They do not travel on a US passport, so they follow their own nationality's rules.
The island has a large international community: workers, students, retirees, remote professionals and families who moved from other countries. If that describes you, ask one question first: which passport will I hand to the officer?
Some people search for a Dubai visa for Puerto Rican residents who hold another nationality, and the answer is always passport-led. A US green card is proof of US residence. It is not US citizenship.
The UAE government portal does contain special rules for some nationalities that hold US documents. For example, it lists a 14-day visa on arrival for Indian citizens who hold a US visit visa or a US green card, provided that document is valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. This is only an example of how specific the rules can be. Your own nationality may have a different rule, or none.
People searching for a Dubai visa for expats in Puerto Rico should check their nationality's current UAE rule first. If an advance visa is required for that nationality, an online application is the usual route. If it is not, you may not need to buy one.
If visa on arrival works for your trip, you may not need to pay for an e-visa. We would rather say that plainly than push a product you may not need.
A Dubai tourist visa from Puerto Rico can still make sense in a few cases:
The sponsor model matters too. Dubai E Visa Online states that tourist visas cannot be requested directly by a traveler on government websites and that applications are submitted through a UAE-based local sponsor. The agency acts as that sponsor, checks your documents and submits the application. Final approval stays with UAE immigration.
The live application page for Puerto Rico shows a list of e-visa products. You can also read our guide to Dubai visa types for a wider overview.
When you choose a Dubai visit visa from Puerto Rico, check three things separately. The first is the permitted stay, which is how long you may remain after entering. The second is the visa validity, which is the window in which you must use the visa. The third is the entry type, which is single or multiple entry. These are not the same thing. A visa can have a 60-day validity window and a 30-day permitted stay.
Here is how the products on the live page compare:
| Visa product | Entry type | Permitted stay | Visa validity | Extendable (per live page) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 Day Short | Single | 7 days | 60 days | Yes |
| 14 Day Business | Single | 14 days | 58 days | Up to 30 days |
| 30 Day Single | Single | 30 days | 60 days | Up to 30 days |
| 30 Day Multiple | Multiple | 30 days | 60 days | Up to 30 days |
| 60 Day Single | Single | 60 days | 60 days | Up to 2 weeks |
| 60 Day Multiple | Multiple | 60 days | 60 days | Not extendable |
| 90 Day Leisure | Single | 90 days | 60 days | Not extendable |
| 48 Hour Transit | Single | 48 hours | 30 days | Not extendable |
| 96 Hour Transit | Single | 96 hours | 30 days | Not extendable |
Extension options depend on the visa and on UAE immigration approval. Do not assume an extension is always possible.
The 30-day products are the ones most leisure travelers compare first. The live page lists a single-entry version and a multiple-entry version. Both allow a 30-day stay, both have a 60-day validity window, and both list an extension of up to 30 days.
Choose single entry if you plan one trip into the UAE and one exit. Choose multiple entry if your itinerary includes leaving and re-entering, for example a side trip to a neighboring country. Multiple entry costs more, so decide based on your actual route, not on a vague "just in case".
If your trip is a short one and you hold a US passport, compare this product with the visa-on-arrival rule before paying.
The 60-day options suit longer stays: extended family visits, slow travel or a combined holiday and remote-work trip. The single-entry version lists an extension of up to two weeks. The multiple-entry version is not extendable.
A longer visa does not remove the need for a clear plan. Know where you will stay, when you will leave and how you will handle any change of dates. If you are unsure, read about the Dubai visa extension rules before you commit.
A transit e-visa is not a shorter tourist visa. Eligibility depends on your itinerary, airline, airport, layover length and whether you remain in the transit area. Read our guide to Dubai transit visa laws before choosing a 48-hour or 96-hour option. If you plan to leave the airport for more than your transit time, a visit visa is the likelier fit.
A business visa is not a work permit. The 14-day business product lets you handle permitted business activity, such as meetings. It does not give you the right to take up employment. Check the rules for your specific activity.
The documents below come from the live Dubai E Visa Online application page. They are service requirements, not a UAE government checklist. The government's own entry rule that we can confirm is the six-month passport validity noted earlier.
Prepare these items:
A few habits help applicants from the island. Puerto Ricans often have two surnames and accents in their names, such as Muñoz or Peña. Enter your name exactly as it appears on the passport data page, and match that spelling in every field and on your booking. A mismatch between the form and the passport is a common cause of delays.
Scan the whole data page in good light, with no glare or cropped edges.
If you are applying for children, each child needs their own passport details and photo. Check each passport's expiry date separately.
The process is online, and you do not need to visit an office. Our short guide to applying for a Dubai visa in three steps covers the basics. Here is the version for Puerto Rico travelers.
A Dubai visa application online Puerto Rico applicants complete from home follows five stages:
Keep one point in mind. Your passport says "United States of America", even when your home is Puerto Rico. If any field on the form seems to conflict with the passport, follow the passport and ask support before you submit.
Cost is the part of the decision that matters most when visa on arrival is an option, so here is what the live application page shows.
Searches such as Dubai visa cost from Puerto Rico and Dubai visa price for Puerto Rican citizens usually come down to one question: is the fee a government charge or a service charge? According to Dubai E Visa Online, the displayed price includes the UAE government fee plus its sponsorship service fee. The split between the two is not published on the page, so we do not present any part of the price as a fixed government fee.
The table shows the "starting from" price per person on the live page. Puerto Rico uses the US dollar, so the third column matches the first. AED figures are approximate and use the fixed AED 3.6725 per USD rate. The original USD price is unchanged.
| Visa product | Price (USD) | Price (AED, approx.) | Price (Puerto Rico currency: USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 Day Short | $125 | AED 459 | US$125 |
| 14 Day Business | $138 | AED 507 | US$138 |
| 30 Day Single | $154 | AED 566 | US$154 |
| 30 Day Multiple | $450 | AED 1,653 | US$450 |
| 60 Day Single | $421 | AED 1,546 | US$421 |
| 60 Day Multiple | $700 | AED 2,571 | US$700 |
| 90 Day Leisure | $850 | AED 3,122 | US$850 |
| 48 Hour Transit | $121 | AED 444 | US$121 |
| 96 Hour Transit | $137 | AED 503 | US$137 |
The prices shown above are approximate and may vary depending on the visa type, nationality, processing time, and other applicable factors. The final fee will be confirmed at the time of application.
A few factors can change what you pay: the visa type, the entry type, the speed of processing and the number of travelers. Because the listed prices are per person, a family should multiply by the number of applicants. For a wider look at what shapes costs, read our guide to Dubai visa fees.
If a US passport holder can enter on arrival, ask whether the extra cost buys something you need, such as a document before departure or a multiple-entry option.
Processing estimates on the live page vary by product:
| Visa product | Estimated processing time (live page) |
|---|---|
| 7 Day Short, 14 Day Business, 48 Hour Transit | 1-2 days |
| 90 Day Leisure | 1-2 days |
| 30 Day and 60 Day (single and multiple) | 3-4 days |
| 96 Hour Transit | 4-5 days |
| 2 Year Freelancer | 15-30 days |
These are estimates, not promises. UAE immigration makes the final decision, and the timing can change with document quality, application volume and review requirements. Do not book non-refundable flights or hotels until your visa is approved.
Some travelers need a faster result. The express Dubai visa page covers the faster processing option. The main application page describes fast processing of 24 to 48 hours as part of its service. Treat this as an estimate, not a commitment.
Express handling is not magic. It cannot fix missing documents or a mismatched name. If your passport scan is unclear, you may lose more time than you save. Prepare your documents first, and then ask whether express is available for your visa type and travel date.
If you hold a US passport and your trip is soon, visa on arrival may be a simpler plan than a rushed application. Check the UAE rule for your passport before you pay for speed.
Applying online means the town you live in does not change the process. A traveler in San Juan, Ponce, Mayagüez, Bayamón, Caguas or a small mountain town uses the same form, the same document list and the same payment steps.
Travelers searching for a Puerto Rico to Dubai visa often expect a local office visit. For the e-visa route described here, you submit online. For a visa-on-arrival entry, the process happens at the UAE port of entry. Neither route requires you to stand in line at a consulate in Puerto Rico.
Here are the practical points for applicants on the island:
Once you submit, you can check your Dubai visa status on our tracking page. Keep your application details handy. Our guide on how to check Dubai visa status online explains what the stages mean.
These issues come up most often on applications from Puerto Rico:
You can read more in our guide to common reasons for Dubai visa rejection. Careful preparation lowers the risk of delay, but it cannot remove the risk of refusal. UAE immigration has the final say, and a refused application may mean you need to correct information, choose another option or travel on arrival if your passport allows it.
Two more safety points. First, always check that a visa you receive is genuine, and use official UAE immigration channels for verification. Second, do not rely on old overstay information. Grace periods and fines have changed in recent years. Check current ICP guidance and the exact stay printed on your visa or entry stamp.
Ready to compare your options? Start your Dubai visa application if an advance visa fits your plans, or use the status page if you have already applied. If you hold a US passport and a visa on arrival works for your trip, that route may be all you need.
