Dubai Tourist Visa from Malawi: Options and Stay Lengths
These three terms are often confused:
- Stay duration: how long you may remain in the UAE once you enter.
- Visa validity: the window in which you must enter after the visa is issued.
- Entries: how many times you may enter within that window.
A 30-day visa with 60 days of validity means you must enter within 60 days and may stay up to 30 days per entry.

Dubai Visa for Malawians Living in South Africa
If you live in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban or elsewhere in South Africa on a Malawian passport, apply as a Malawian citizen. In June 2026 the UAE extended visa-on-arrival to South African passport holders who hold certain qualifying residence permits. That change applies to South African nationals, not to Malawians living in South Africa, and South Africa is not on the list of qualifying residence countries.
In practice:
- Apply online. You don't need to return to Malawi.
- Use the same Malawian passport for the application and for travel.
- Have your South African visa or permit details ready in case they are requested.
- Emirates operates nonstop flights between Johannesburg and Dubai, taking roughly eight hours. Dubai is two hours ahead of South Africa.
If you also hold a South African passport, the entry rules for that passport apply instead. Check them with MOFA and apply with a single passport consistently.
Dubai Visa for Malawians Living in the United States
A Malawian passport holder living in the US still needs a pre-approved Dubai visa. The UAE's recent visa-on-arrival expansion for people with US residence permits applies only to specific nationalities. Malawi is not among them at the time of writing. Check MOFA before travel in case this changes.
In practice:
- Apply online using a Malawian passport valid for at least six months.
- Keep your US visa or Green Card details ready, as supporting documents may be requested.
- International Visa and Mastercard cards work for payment in USD.
- Several airlines connect the US and Dubai, with nonstop options from some cities. Check current schedules and allow for the time difference.

Dubai Visa Fees for Malawi Passport Holders
The prices above are "starting from" amounts per person in US dollars. They include UAE government charges plus our sponsorship service fee. The final price depends on visa type, stay length, entries and any express option. Your card issuer converts the amount to your local currency at its own rate, whether that is kwacha, rand or something else.
Be cautious with agents quoting far below these levels. Government charges can't be discounted, so always ask for a written quote.
Dubai Visa Documents Required for Malawian Citizens
Prepare clear colour scans or phone photos of:
- Passport bio page, with all four corners visible and at least six months' validity
- A recent passport-style photograph on a white background, in colour
- Flight details, return or onward. We recommend booking only after approval.
- Accommodation details, a hotel booking or your host's details. If you stay with a relative or friend in the UAE, you can share their Emirates ID.
Your passport should have at least four blank pages. Names must match the passport exactly. If you apply from outside Malawi, a copy of your residence permit or visa may also be requested.

Dubai Visa Application from Lilongwe and Blantyre
Applying is entirely online, so travelers in Lilongwe, Blantyre and other towns follow the same steps. You don't need to travel to the capital to submit anything.
Current schedules show no nonstop flights between Lilongwe and Dubai. Travelers connect through regional hubs, most commonly Addis Ababa and Nairobi with Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways, or via Doha. Dubai is two hours ahead of Malawi.
On a connecting itinerary, airlines check that your approved e-visa matches your passport. Carry a printed copy, and ask your airline whether any extra pre-boarding clearance applies to your route.
Processing Time and Tracking Your Application

- Visiting family or friends: A UAE-resident relative can sponsor you directly, or you can apply through an agency using their details as your host.
- Short business trips: The 14-day business visa suits meetings and events. It does not allow you to work.
- Transit: A 48-hour or 96-hour transit visa is for travelers who want to leave the airport during a stopover. Whether you need one depends on your airline and route, so confirm before booking.
A visit visa never permits employment. If you have a job offer, your employer must arrange the correct work authorization.
