14 Day Business Visa

Åland Islands residents don't hold a separate national passport. You travel internationally on a Finnish passport, one that carries a special Åland marking on the cover, but it works exactly like any other Finnish passport at border control. That one detail shapes everything else about how you get from Åland to Dubai, so it's worth starting there.
No advance visa is required. Because your travel document is a Finnish passport, and Finland is one of the countries on the UAE's visa-free list, you can enter the UAE and stay for up to 90 days within a rolling 180-day period, granted automatically at the airport with just your passport. There's no separate category or extra step for the Åland-issued version of the passport; UAE immigration treats it the same as a standard Finnish one, since both confirm the same Finnish and EU citizenship.
A few practical points still apply, no matter which version of the passport you hold:
Mariehamn Airport (MHQ) doesn't have long-haul flights. Its scheduled routes connect to Helsinki, Stockholm, and Turku, so a trip to Dubai always starts with one of these short regional hops first. From there:
Booking the Mariehamn–Helsinki leg and the Helsinki–Dubai leg on the same ticket, where possible, makes checked baggage and connection times easier to manage.
Åland uses the Euro, same as mainland Finland, so there's no currency conversion needed before you fly. The UAE Dirham (AED) is pegged to the US Dollar, which keeps it fairly stable against the Euro too. One quirk worth knowing: Åland sits inside the EU but outside the EU's VAT and customs union, which is why duty-free sales still exist on ferries leaving Åland. It doesn't affect your UAE trip directly, but it's a good reason to pick up any duty-free items on the ferry leg rather than assuming Helsinki or Stockholm airports will offer the same prices.
Åland's winters are dark and cold, with very short daylight hours by December. Dubai's most comfortable months, November through March, line up well with that stretch, making it a natural time to swap Nordic winter for Gulf sunshine. Summer works the other way around: Åland's archipelago is at its best for boating and long daylight from June to August, which is also when Dubai gets uncomfortably hot and humid, so most Åland travellers head south in winter rather than summer.
Åland does not have its own UAE embassy or consulate, and neither does mainland Finland outside its capital. The relevant mission for any visa, document, or consular query is:
If you need in-person consular help, this means a trip to Helsinki, which fits naturally if you're already routing through Helsinki-Vantaa for your flight to Dubai.
Åland has its own regional citizenship, called right of domicile, which matters for voting and property rights within Åland. It has no bearing on international travel. For UAE entry purposes, what matters is your Finnish nationality and passport, so right-of-domicile holders and other Finnish citizens from Åland are treated identically by UAE immigration.
